Vacationing in Orlando and the surrounding areas - Orlando - FL - US

Orlando is one of the top tourist attractions in the US. Along with popular family vacation spots like Disney World, Sea World, MGM and Universal, there are many less known spots that you can visit and save yourself a few dollars. In this article I will talk about a few of these.

Silver Springs in Ocala Florida is one of my favorite less known vacation spots. Silver Springs is a 350 acre nature theme park that surrounds the headwaters of the beautiful Silver River, the largest artesian spring formation in the world. Located 90 miles north of Orlando, just east of Ocala, Florida.


Here you can view the underground springs from our famous glass-bottom boats, where you’ll see fish, shellfish, turtles and alligators in water that’s up to 80 feet deep and 99.8% pure. Walk the beautiful grounds and experience the natural habitats of Florida’s largest alligators, endangered bears and panthers, Kritter Korral petting zoo, plus an entertaining variety of wildlife shows from Birds of Prey to

snakes and reptiles. There are rides and exhibits for all ages in a natural setting of stunning beauty.


Silver Springs is a very nice departure from the parks in the Orlando area. The crowds are much smaller and the ticket prices are much less ranging from $24 for children to $33 for adults.


The hotels in the area are not as vast or even as nice as the ones near Disney, but you can find a nice hotel or just make it a day trip from Orlando as it is a very easy drive between the two.


Cypress Gardens is about 45 minutes south of Disney World. Cypress Gardens is a famous Florida park which nearly closed a few years back, but was saved and is now in the best shape ever. The park includes a mixture of rides, shows, gardens, concerts, and animal displays. There is a Best Western Inn right outside the park that is always clean and inexpensive. Makes for an easy transition from park to hotel as they are within easy walking distance.
